Hello All! Welcome to Baker Band! This will be an exciting year full of musical growth and development. I am very eager to see what a talented group of students I have this year.

Please see the list of recommended instruments and supplies if you have not taken care of that already!

Also, be on the lookout for our band handbook, which will be posted here by early next week. Your child will need to return the signature page that will be given to them in class regarding acknowledgement of our policies and procedures.
If you have not been able to acquire your instrument or supplies, please come to our Fall Instrument Drive.

Group Picture Form

Hi all!  We will be taking Band, Orchestra, Choir, Robotics, Student Counsel and Art club pictures on Friday, February 9.   Your child received an order from in class this week.
Please put your child's class period, teacher and organization name on the from where it asks for team name and coach.
If you are buying pictures for more than 1 organization, please use separate forms.
Please make sure your student wears their band t-shirt to school on Friday AND brings along their robotics, student counsel, or art club t-shirt, if applicable.

Winter Concert Letter 2017

Hello Parents! Attached to this email is our WINTER concert letter (your child will receive a hard copy in class today). I know this may be confusing, but please do not mix up our Winter Concert 12/14 with our Christmas on Main performance 12/7! Our Winter concert takes place at Baker and is only Baker Band students. We will keep kiddos after school until the concert so that we can practice as a big group before our performance. Our performance begins at 6:30. It will be very crowded and parking can sometimes be an issue. Please take this into consideration as you prepare to attend this concert. Also, because they are beginners, our concert will not be longer than 15-17 minutes, so try not to be late or you might miss it!!
We are expecting shirts by Wednesday next week. My apologies for the delay, but we had many students not bring in forms or payment and that delayed our ability to place our order.
I can not wait for your to hear their progress!!

Christmas on Main 2017/Thanksgiving Break

Hello Parents!
Attached to this email is information for our first performance, Christmas on Main Street, taking place on Thursday, December 7. We will go over this in detail with your students, but please be sure to read all of the information! We will need some chaperones for this event to help with supervising our line as we walk to and from the performance site. Please let me know if you are available to help!
We still have 25 students who haven't turned in their band t-shirt order form and payment. We are asking students daily because we cannot place our order until we have all turned in. If there are financial issues, please contact your child's director and we will be happy to help in any way that we can.
I know your kiddos are looking forward to a week off of school! However, please help us by encouraging them to practice as much as possible over the break. A week is an ETERNITY at this age to not play their instrument. It's not as if they will forget how to play, but they will have delayed responses to music reading (recalling note names and fingers along with rhythm) and they will lose tone in their embouchure (facial muscles). Honestly, if you don't use it, you lose it!!
We would love for them to play a bunch over break, but we know that isn't always possible. We have asked them on busy days to at lease play through all of their concert music (3 songs). That should take less than 10 minutes. On less busy days, they can really work on making their music the best it can be AND continue on in our book by playing exercises on pages 7-10.
There will be 2 weeks worth of practice records due upon our return from break. This week 11/13-11/19 and next week 11/20-11/26. I will try to send a REMIND101 to help you remember to get those signed and sent back in!

Update 9/8 - Instrument Drive tomorrow

Hello Parents! We are learning MASSIVE amounts of new information and your kiddos are ROCK STARS!! They have come back from a long break and are really doing an amazing job jumping back into to learning. I have two things I would like to share with you:
1. We are hoping to start playing our instruments on Wednesday, September 13. In preparation for this, we have been learning a lot of fundamental music information that we will be testing over on Tuesday. Please encourage your child to prepare for this, as we really need each student to have a solid foundation of essential information before we add an instrument to the madness!!!
2. Our instrument drive will take place tomorrow, Saturday, September 9 in the Baker Cafeteria from 9:00-12:00. Music and Arts and Swicegood music will be here tomorrow if you still need to rent an instrument and/or purchase supplies. If your child already has everything they need for class, there is no need to attend.
We are still having a blast in class and are extremely excited to see what this year brings!

Returning to school after Harvey

Hello Baker Band Parents!
What a crazy week it has been. I sure hope that your families are dry and safe. Please know that I have been thinking about all of you. Also, do not hesitate to contact me if your student has a need (school or otherwise) that is not being met. I will do everything in my power to help!
As I am sure you are aware, we will start back to school tomorrow and I am looking forward to reuniting with your kiddos! Our timeline has shifted a bit, but we will try to start using instruments next Wednesday, September 13. In the meantime, our instrument drive has been rescheduled (again!) for this Saturday, September 9 from 9:00-12:00 in the Baker Cafeteria. Please feel free to swing by if your child is still in need of an instrument rental or any supplies. Both Swicegood music and Music and Arts will be available to help!
We are going to have an amazing year and I look forward to seeing our students at school tomorrow!
