La Porte ISD is among 12 Texas school districts that have been recognized for outstanding programs with the release of Texas School Business magazine’s 11th Annual Bragging Rights 2017-2018 special issue. La Porte ISD’s new planetarium is featured in the publication as one of the top innovative programs in the state.
At La Porte High School, the LPHS Band performed opening music and a musical tribute to the Armed Forces, and the JROTC Color Guard presented the colors. Cadet Major William Lowden led the Pledge of Allegiance. The LPHS Choir and American Sign Language class performed the national anthem and “Flanders Field.”
La Porte ISD will pay tribute to alumni and community members who serve as models to inspire and challenge today’s students through the newly established Distinguished Alumni and Citizens Awards program.
On Sept. 28, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized 342 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. (New photos added Oct. 26!)
